From skiing in Mayrhofen to golfing in the Ziller Valley

Hiking in Autumn, ski touring in Winter: In Mayrhofen, in the Ziller Valley, there’s plenty of sports on offer whatever the season. Whilst summer guests refresh themselves in sparkling alpine lakes, skiiers are carving turns on the Hintertux glacier. Every season in Mayrhofen has its own charm – Let me tell you about the ‘must-dos’ of a holiday in the Ziller Valley.

A sports paradise throughout the year

Whatever time of year you visit Mayrhofen in the Ziller Valley, you can choose from a huge range of sporting activities. In summer everything centers around enjoyment and culinary indulgence. In Winter most visitors spend their holidays exploring the ski areas of the surrounding mountains. Together with renowned down-to-earth and friendly Tyrolean hospitality, a holiday in the Ziller Valley is an unforgettable experience. It’s not for nothing that the resort has the reputation as a year-round holiday destination.

Skiing the Hintertux Glacier

Skiing the Hintertux Glacier

As a fair weather skier, when the snow starts to melt and the first flowers push their way through the blanket of frost, it marks the beginning of my favourite time on the mountain. The days get longer, the temperatures rise and the snow is softer. It’s the perfect weather to sun myself on the terrace of a hut at lunchtime. And, even after a day of skiing, the day is still not over. I enjoy the last of the sun’s rays jogging or biking in the valley whilst simultaneously checking out the village and its restaurants for my evening meal.

Tip for water lovers: Explore the wild rivers of the valley on a Canyoning or Rafting adventure.

The Ziller Valley: A summer paradise

The words “pure enjoyment” and “culinary indulgence” perfectly sum up a summer holiday in Mayrhofen in the Ziller Valley. My personal recommendation for your summer holiday is to take a relaxing bike ride along the Ziller Valley cycle path. Nestled between imposing mountains to your left and right, a well-signposted, 31km path leads along the whole valley, past outdoor swimming pools, playgrounds and visitor attractions. Refuel and reenergise with some delicious Tyrolean specialities such as Zillertaler Krapfen, Kasspatzn or Kaspressknödel at any one of the many guesthouses along the route.

On the mountain you can escape the heat of the valley. Taking a trip up the mountain – the Ahorn, for example – is another highlight of hot summer days. My tip: take the cable car up, enjoy the views walking around the plateau and finish with a Tiroler Gröstl at the Ahornhütte mountain restaurant. After all that exercise, you have earned a treat. I, personally, like to do some leisurely shopping in the centre of Mayrhofen, stopping off at one of the many inviting bars and cafés. I also particularly recommend the traditional festivals where you can enjoy typical Tyrolean food and traditional music. The whole valley has a special and unique vibe in summer.

Golden Autumn days in the Ziller Valley

Autumn is the best time to hike in the Ziller Valley

On a golden Autumn day, I have just one plan: put my hiking boots on and head off to the mountains! The trees are bright with autumnal hues and the cool alpine air tempts hikers and mountaineers to the mountain peaks. An autumn hike on the Ramsberg mountain is especially lovely. However, even in the Autumn months I don’t have to be without my skis. The Hintertux glacier offers year-round fun for skiers and snowboarders. And, if I want a break from the mountain, then I visit the 18-hole golf course in Uderns, which offers a welcome change from mountain sports. Whether on the mountain or in the valley, your autumn holiday in Mayrhofen is bound to be an adventure.

Mayrhofen: The winter sport destination in the Ziller Valley

A winter holiday in Mayrhofen without skis? It’s possible, but wouldn’t be for me. Its at this time of year that I feel especially drawn to the Ziller Valley. But why? Its quite simple: the variety of sports on offer is as diverse as the scenery of Mayrhofen.
Whilst I am flying down the steepest piste –the Harakiri -, cross-country skiers are making their tracks on the 200km of cross-country trails. The Ziller Valley doesn’t only cater for alpine and cross-country skiers, but is also a paradise for ski tourers. After all, there’s practically a mountain on the doorstep of every house. However, away from the pistes, there is even more to experience. In addition to the many tobogganing runs, some of which offer up to 7km of sledging fun, visitors can explore idyllic snow-shoe and winter walking trails. The perfect blend of activities for your holiday in the Ziller Valley!
